Estate Planning & Probate

Estate Planning & Probate

Estate planning is an area of law pertaining to the process by which individuals or families plan for the transfer of assets in anticipation of death. Probate is the legal process where the assets are distributed after ones death. This area includes: wills, living wills, and powers of attorney.

Will
A will expressions your own wishes for the disposition of your property at your death. Creating a will allows you discretion on how your assets are divided after your death.
Living Wills
A living will is a document that expresses your wishes regarding your end of life medical care. A living will expresses your wishes but does not leave property or divide assets at the time of your death. Without a living will your family members will have to decide a course of treatment and it may not reflect your wishes.
Powers of Attorney
A power of attorney allows you to select a person to make decisions for you, if you would ever get to a point that you are unable to make those decisions for yourself.
